The Government of Odisha established the College of Engineering & Technology, Bhubaneswar in 1981 to address the increasing demand for technical expertise in the state. Initially, it functioned as a Constituent College of the Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology, Bhubaneswar. Following the establishment of a Technical University for Odisha, the college became a Constituent College of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Odisha, effective from July 9, 2002, as per section-37(1) of the BPUT Act, 2002.
