Founded by Dr. T.S. Soundaram and Dr. G. Ramachandran, the Gandhigram Rural Institute of Higher Education traces its origins back to 1956 with a mission to uphold Mahatma Gandhi’s ‘Nai Talim’ system of education. Recognizing its contributions, the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi, declared it a Deemed University in 1976 under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956, with full funding provided by UGC.
In alignment with UGC guidelines, the institute underwent a renaming process in 2006, emerging as the Gandhigram Rural Institute while continuing its commitment to rural education and community development.
Transcripts from Gandhigram Rural University contain the marks of each subject from the first to last semester. This is then placed in an envelope which is sealed and stamped/signed across the back-flap.
