Situated in the historic city of Warangal, the university is named after the illustrious Kakatiya dynasty, which held sway over the Eastern Deccan region from the 12th to the 14th centuries A.D. The university’s extensive campus, sprawling over approximately 672 acres, bears the fitting appellation of ‘Vidyaranyapuri,’ paying homage to the renowned sage and Sanskrit scholar, Vidyaranya. Legend has it that Vidyaranya, born in Warangal, played a role in the establishment of the famous Vijayanagara empire in 1336.
