Established by an Act of Parliament (No. 8 of 2000), Mizoram University commenced operations on 2nd July 2001. Situated in Aizawl, the capital city of Mizoram, the university spans across 978.1988 acres on the city’s outskirts. Before the establishment of Mizoram University, the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) operated a campus in Mizoram.
Mizoram University has been accredited with an ‘A’ grade by NAAC in both 2014 and 2019, and it received ISO Certification in 2018. The university has consistently ranked among the top 100 universities in India according to the NIRF rankings from 2016 to 2023 under MHRD. In the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2022, Mizoram University secured the 1st Rank in the North-East Region of India.
